A Sweet Tooth’s Guide to Hasselt

I’ve always had a sweet tooth. I just looooove cakes and pastries!! My very first job was at a bakery so I got to try all the good stuff first hand! My hometown has got a lot to offer when it comes to sweets. So today I’ll take you to some of the sweetest spots of Hasselt!

Tarte Tatin

As the name suggests, the apple pie is one of the specialties at Tarte Tatin.  Besides cakes and pies, they also serve the sweetest teas and iced teas. I suggest you try the strawberry/mascarpone pie, sooooo good! With it’s cosy interior and a sofa to sit on while eating your pie  (like in Friends!!), you’ll feel right at home there and might never want to leave again…

Boon, The Chocolate Experience

This place is literally a chocolate paradise!!! At Boon you can’t only buy chocolates, you can  also drink all kinds of chocolate drinks and watch how the chocolatiers make their delicious goods. Some of the things they make are like pieces of art and look (almost) too good to eat! When you order one of the hot drinks at Boon you’ll always get a little chocolate mousse with it. How great is this!!!

Patisserie Cools

Patisserie Cools is an estimated value in Hasselt. It was founded in 1856 by Theodore Cools and has been around for over 150 years since. At the shop you can buy breads, croissants, cakes and pastries. But you can also enjoy one of the pastries in the tea-room with a nice hot drink. I can assure you this is the best bakery in Hasselt!! Maybe even in Belgium… Or the world??

At Kokozi they have ice cream. And cupcakes. And ice cream cupcakes!!!!! Yes, this does exist. And it’s the best thing ever! You can either eat your cupcake there with a yummie drink or take it away. I’ve been addicted to these cupcakes ever since I discovered them a few years ago. So try them at your own risk…

Coffee Cafe

The cakes at Coffee Cafe defy all imagination! They truly have all kinds of cakes and pies. From Chunky Monkey Pie to Nutella bread. You name it, they make it! And then I haven’t even started about their super sweet coffees and other drinks. Make sure you try one of their original specials, you won’t regret it!

So where will you go first?? If this doesn’t make you want to come to Hasselt, I don’t know what will…
